Terms & conditions
The fair, straightforward basis on which we quote for and look after your boat.
The short version
- Prices on the website are “from” prices; you get a firm written quote before any work starts.
- A date in the booking calendar is a request — it's confirmed once we reply.
- Your boat must stay fully insured by you while it's lifted, transported and with us. We carry our own business insurance, but it doesn't replace yours.
- If something's not right, tell us and we'll put it right.
About these terms
These terms apply when you use this website and when you ask Awlworks Ltd (part of Bluewater Boats Ltd) to carry out work on your boat. Your written quote may add details specific to your job; if it differs from these terms, the quote applies. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Quotes and prices
Prices shown on the website are guide “from” prices for a typical narrowboat and include collection and delivery within our usual working area. Every boat is different, so we confirm a firm price in writing — usually within one working day of seeing photos or the boat itself. Wide beams, Dutch barges and unusual hulls are always priced individually. Quotes are valid for the period shown on them, and prices exclude VAT where shown as “+ VAT”.
Booking a slot
The booking calendar shows dates when we expect to have room for the whole job. Choosing a date sends us a request; your slot is only reserved once we confirm it with you by email or phone. We may ask for a deposit to hold a confirmed slot — if so, the amount will be set out in your quote.
Collection and delivery
Where the price includes transport, we or our appointed haulier will arrange a date to lift your boat and bring it back. You're responsible for making sure the boat is accessible, that the marina or mooring allows lifting, and for any marina fees for craneage unless your quote says otherwise. Please remove valuables and secure loose items before collection.
Your boat in our yard
We take proper care of every boat in the yard, and your boat must stay insured by you for the whole time it's with us (see Insurance below). Please tell us about anything that could affect the work or safety — for example gas, fuel or battery issues, or known hull damage. For safety, visits to the working yard are by arrangement only.
Insurance
Customers must ensure that their vessel remains fully insured under their own comprehensive insurance policy at all times, including while the vessel is being lifted, transported, stored at our premises and undergoing works.
Where lifting and transport are arranged as part of our service, the marina or crane/hoist operator and the appointed transport company will carry their own relevant insurance cover for the operations they undertake.
Whilst a vessel is at Awlworks Limited’s premises and in our care, custody or control, Awlworks Limited maintains appropriate business insurance in connection with the services we provide. This should not be considered a replacement for the vessel owner’s own comprehensive insurance.
The owner remains responsible for ensuring that their insurance provides adequate cover for the full value of the vessel, its contents and equipment throughout the period it is away from its usual mooring.
Customers should notify their insurer that the vessel will be transported and undergoing works where required under the terms of their policy.
The work
We'll carry out the work described in your quote with reasonable care and skill, using the materials specified. Shot blasting sometimes reveals problems that couldn't be seen beforehand, such as thin plating or pitting. If we find anything that needs extra work, we'll stop, show you and agree a price before going further. Time in the yard is given in working days and can move if the weather or a hidden defect gets in the way; we'll keep you updated.
Payment
Unless your quote says otherwise, the balance is due when the work is finished and before your boat is returned. We'll give you a written invoice. We may keep the boat until the invoice has been paid in full.
Changes and cancellations
If you need to move or cancel a confirmed slot, please let us know as early as possible. Where a deposit has been paid, we'll refund it or move it to a new date if you give us reasonable notice; if you cancel at short notice and we can't fill the slot, we may keep some or all of it to cover our loss. We'll always explain this in your quote. If we have to move your slot, we'll offer the nearest available alternative or a full refund of any deposit.
Our liability
We're responsible for loss or damage that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for existing defects we couldn't reasonably have known about, for wear and tear, or for losses that weren't foreseeable. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Complaints
If you're not happy with any part of our work, please tell us as soon as possible on (01926) 811699 or at [email protected]. We'll look into it promptly and, where we've got something wrong, put it right.
