Diligence – Shot Blasting & Blacking
'Diligence' came into Awlworks for a comprehensive programme of hull maintenance, including full shot blasting and blacking of the hull and base plate.
The first stage involved thoroughly shot blasting the hull to remove the existing coatings, corrosion and surface contaminants. This provided a clean, properly prepared surface and gave us the opportunity to inspect the condition of the steel before applying the new protective coating.
Particular attention was given to the base plate, an area that can often be overlooked but plays an important role in protecting the boat against corrosion below the waterline.
Once preparation was complete, the hull and base plate were professionally blacked, providing a fresh protective barrier designed to help safeguard the steel and extend the life of the hull.
We photographed the work throughout, from the initial condition of 'Diligence', through the shot-blasting and preparation stages, to the freshly finished hull.
The result: a properly prepared and protected hull, ready to return to the water and continue cruising for years to come.
